New Years Resolutions
There is nothing I hate more than people making new years resolutions one year, keeping them for a week, and then telling us next year how they have the SAME resolutions.. What’s the point? I understand you want attention from everyone to tell you how great your resolutions are, but at least pick resolutions that you intend on keeping. And why aren’t more people’s resolutions about changing themselves for the better or trying something new? This year I think I’m going to try something very new. My resolutions are things I really want to try.
1. Become a Pescatarian- I originally was going to go all out and try vegetarianism for the year, but then I realized that I wasn’t doing it for any of the right reasons. I am not passionate about cutting up animals and eating them, Hell, I love steak! I lived in Argentina for a semester and pretty much ate parilla every week! And let me tell you, that was some of the best barbecue I have ever had. YUM. Don’t get me wrong, I do think it’s kind of cruel how they do it in factories and stuff, but I also think that if we were living in the animal kingdom, we’d kill them with our bare hands and eat those cows and chickens anyway. It’s called the circle of life. I mean, it’s kind of how the world works. So I decided to try pescatarianism because I think I should eat a bit healthier.. I’m not only going to be a pescatarian, but I’m also going to try to eat healthier as a whole. I want to see if I feel healthier as a person by eating better. Also I read a bunch of stuff that sounded awesome about pescataranism! And as much as I am not an environmental freak, I’m starting to think that this whole global warming thing is pretty serious. I mean, there hasn’t been one steady week of sticky snow in Rochester yet. Thats’s scary. (I love it, but it does worry me a bit). I guess I should contribute to some of that “green” logic, and save the environment ideas…
2. Read the Whole Bible- Growing up as a Catholic, then an Episcopalian, I don’t think I ever really appreciated the teachings and stories, beliefs of the bible until I was older. I started listening to the sermons at church when I was about 16 (Sorry Cindy) and I started to realize that maybe it was actually worth learning about. I was confirmed Episcopalian and was an alter girl and all that stuff, and while I sit in church I can probably recite the entire Priests lector word for word, but I have never actually taken the bible and the things that I have learned and interpreted them for myself. I like to think of myself as not believing in much but what I can see and feel, but if I’m going to complain about people being obsessed with religion and tell people things that I do or don’t believe I guess I should actually have my own beliefs about that book, right? Also, I guess I can’t call myself an Episcopalian unless I actually know, understand and have interpreted the meaning of that for myself…
3. Study up on Buddhism- I LOVE the idea of Buddhism, but I’ve never had time to look into how to practice it. I love the idea that it is more of a way of life than a belief system, and that, to me, is way worth it. I think that that is what religion should be, but I think it is way misinterpreted and people are misguided about it. But I can’t speak for everyone else, now can I? From what I have seen, I love that the teachings of Buddhism are very straightforward. It seems very hard to misconstrue these ideas to suit oneself. This is the type of simplicity I love.
4. Pick a good Hobby and Stick to it- When I have free time, I really have NOTHING to do! I want to find a good hobby to pick up and (STICK TO) since that is very hard for me, I don’t think I’ve ever actually finished a project or stuck with a hobby unless I had to…
5. Run a Marathon- I really want to run some sort of marathon this year! I love exercising, but I find it’s very hard to stick to it unless there is a goal involved, which is why I always loved playing sports. There was always a goal! So, Looks like next week starts my training for my first 8k!
6. Get to —-lbs. Now I know you didn’t think I wouldn’t have at least ONE typical resolution, did you?
Now, let’s see how good I do.
